Do You Need A Tent With an AC Port?

Yes, for most camping AC units it is important to have an AC Port.

If you are using a window AC unit you will definitely need an AC port in your tent as they sit just outside of your tent blow the cold air through the Port.

If you plan on using a portable tent AC unit you will a tent that has an E-Port which is a small opening that allows a built-in extension cord to run from the inside of your tent to the outside. However, it is possible to run your own extension cord through the tent door and zip it up until it is tight around the cord.

AC Flap V.S E- Port

When looking for a tent with an AC port there are two different options. The first is an AC flap which is a larger opening for window AC units to sit outside of the tent and blow cold air inside.

An AC flap is usable for any type of camping AC unit as it can fit a large window unit or a simple extension cord. The tents that we chose to review all have an AC flap, as well as the L Shaped Cabin tent, has both.

While an E-Port is a small opening just big enough for a built-in extension cord to go from the inside to the outside of the tent.

The E-Port flap is only viable for portable AC units that sit inside your tent and require electricity from the outside.
